From writer-directors Josh and Bennie Safdie, Sandler plays Howard Ratner, a New York City jeweler with an ego matched only by his gambling addiction.
But one big score, a rare red opal from Ethiopia, is his ticket to a million dollars, a divorce from his wife, a life with his girlfriend, and, if he has any sense, the payment of all his existing gambling debts.
Some folks felt snubbed when Sandler wasn’t nominated for a Golden Globe, but was it a good enough performance in a good enough film in this year’s crop to warrant it?
