Synopsis:

Fred, a frustrated copywriter, checks into a winter cabin to start his first novel. While jogging in the nearby woods, he meets Fanny, a successful and smug young horror author, who fuels his insecurities. During a power outage, Fanny challenges Fred to tell a scary story. As a storm sets in, they pass the time spinning spooky tales fueled by the tensions between them, and Fred is forced to confront his ultimate fear: Fanny is the better storyteller. The stakes are raised when they’re visited by a horror fan who delivers levity (and a pizza) to the proceedings.

Scare Me is yet another film I had on my “to-watch” list at the Sundance Film Festival this year, but failed to make.

I’ll admit the premise for this film sounds silly, I know, but have a listen and I promise, it will all be okay.

You’d be amazed at how funny being scared can be… and how scary having fun can be, too.

Want some quotes from the review? Here you go (in no particular order, and with no particular forethought, lol):

“…after they all do some coke and things get weird…”

“…passive-aggressively smug…”

“…and our humorous little trip to the woods slowly takes a darker and darker turn…”

“…balance the scares and the humor…”

Scare Me stars Josh Ruben, Aya Cash, and Chris Redd

Scare Me is available on Shudder October 1.
