Synopsis:

A contractor and his wife move to Malibu to flip his mother’s beach house and are terrorized by the deranged homeless lady living under the house.

I’ll be honest: this one plays like a Lifetime Channel movie… or, rather, the way I feel like a Lifetime Channel movie would play (having never watched a Lifetime movie).

That isn’t to say, of course, that the film is without its appeal.

Kristen Bauer van Straten is perfectly creepy as the “homeless” lady (“Bree”) living under the house. Mena Suvari is well-cast as the put-upon wife (Tracey) of her somewhat shady husband “Knox,” whose mother left him the house.

Has any not-questionable character ever been named “Knox,” by the way? I’m struggling to think of one.

Anyway, the plot progress just as you think it should, as we learn about our happy (?) couple, Knox’s mom, Bree’s background, etc., although I found the bit in the shower (you’ll see) to be both gratuitous and ultimately pointless. It’s like they had contracted for a sexy scene with van Straten, so it had to be in there.

And it was.

It’s not a bad scene, mind you, but the story didn’t really require it.

In the end, Paradise Cove is not a terrible way to spend 100+ minutes. There are better ways, of course, but this one falls on the upper half of the scale.

Paradise Cove can be rented from most digital outlets.

Paradise Cove stars Mena Suvari, Todd Grinnell, and Kristen Bauer van Straten.
