Amityville Poltergeist
89 Minutes, Not Rated
Written by Jon Ashley Hall and Calvin Morie McCarthy
Directed by Calvin Morie McCarthy
Synopsis:
A young man encounters a weekend of horror after taking a housesitting job from an unusually spooky old woman. While interviewing for the housesitting job, the old woman, Rebecca Morse says that she is not scared about anyone getting into the house, she is more afraid about what’s already in the house. As day turns to night, doors start slamming, steps begin to creak, and the ghosts come out to play, or kill…
So much to say here…
First: this is not, as the name might suggest, in any way related to the actual Amityville Horror.
Second: not really poltergeist-type activity.
Third: kind of boring.
Amityville Poltergeist jumps around from present to past as it attempts to establish a reason for all the “spooky” things happening in the house.
It fails. Rather, if it succeeds at all, it’s all-too-obvious what happened then that is affecting now, but it doesn’t really matter, because none of the characters are memorable…
Or worth caring about.
All in all, this is 89 minutes I could have spent watching another movie with a better constructed story and/or production values.
Amityville Poltergeist can be streamed on iTunes, Amazon, Xbox, Playstation, Vudu, FandangoNOW, local cable and satellite providers, or found on DVD.
Amityville Poltergeist stars Parris Bates, Sydney Winbush, J. Rebecca Morse, and Jon Hall.
