Encanto – Movie Review
99 Minutes, Rated PG
Written and Directed by Charise Castro Smith, Jared Bush, and Byron Howard
Synopsis:
A young Colombian girl has to face the frustration of being the only member of her family without magical powers.
Disney continues to develop diverse titles such as Moana, Raya, even tracking back to films such as Lilo and Stitch, Mulan, and Pocahontas (though those early films were arguably off-track in terms of representation).
Encanto is the story of Mirabel, the only “normal” member of her otherwise magically gifted family, who learns she is destined to either save or destroy the magical force which protects the family and their community.
The culture of Encanto‘s community permeates the entirety of the film, and that’s great.
Have a listen.
Encanto will be available in theaters on November 24.
Encanto features the voices of Stephanie Beatriz, Maria Cecilia Botero, John Leguizamo, Maro Castillo, Jessic Darrow, Angie Cepeda, Carlina Gaitan, Diane Guerrero, Wilmer Valderrama, Rhenzy Feliz, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Adassa, and Maluma.
