Turning Red – Movie Review
100 Minutes, Rated PG
Written by Julia Cho and Domee Shi
Directed by Domee Shi
Synopsis:
Mei Lee, a confident, dorky 13-year-old torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. Her protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming, is never far from her daughter—an unfortunate reality for the teenager. And as if changes to her interests, relationships and body weren’t enough, whenever she gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS), she “poofs” into a giant red panda!
This one is a bit of a stumper. It looked entertaining when the first trailers hit, and we were excited it was going into theaters.
Then it was delayed. Then re-scheduled. Then delayed again.
Now, it’s not going to theaters at all. Instead, it’s going straight to Disney+, which is a questionable choice, since it still looks entertaining.
Like people aren’t going to go to the theater to see a Pixar film?
Please.
Families would be lining up to see this, especially since The Batman is Rated R.
But what do we know? We don’t greenlight multi-million-dollar films, do we?
No. No we don’t.
But we do watch them, and then we talk about them.
Turning Red is streaming exclusively on Disney+ now.
Turning Red features the voices of Rosalie Chiang, Sandra Oh, Ava Morse, Hyein Park, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Orion Lee, Wai Ching Ho, Tristan Allerick Chen, Lori Tan Chinn, Mia Tagano, Sherry Cola, Lillian Lim, James Hong, Jordan Fisher, Finneas O’Connell, Topher Ngo, Grayson Villanueva, Josh Levi, Sasha Roiz, Addie Chandler, and Lily Sanfelippo.
