Synopsis:

The Belchers try to save the restaurant from closing as a sinkhole forms in front of it, while the kids try to solve a mystery that could save their family’s restaurant.

Having watched exactly ZERO episodes of Bob’s Burgers, I entered the theater for this screening hesitantly. Sure, I had a passing familiarity with the material from a 30,000 foot POV, and was a fan of King of the Hill, which is in this show’s creative DNA, but still…

Although, I will admit to having seen a Bob’s Burgers-esque show: the episode of Archer where he is effectively playing Bob (both voiced by H. Jon Benjamin, of course) while suffering from amnesia.

Movies based on cartoons generallyy exist to serve one purpose: provide enough of a framework to hang character bits on for the established audience to appreciate. If it does that, if can be successful enough to NOT kill the franchise.

If it can manage to do that, while also providing enough of a standalone feel and non-deep-dive material for casual or novice audiences to appreciate the movie, then you’ve really got something special.

And I think this film does that pretty well. It’s not perfect, by any stretch, but it’s good enough to make folks happy.

Stick around until the end of the episode for some bonus talk about various Television shows that are about to drop that we’re looking forward to.

The Bob’s Burgers Movie sizzles into theaters on May 27 and features H. Jon Benjamin, Kristen Schaal, Dan Mintz, Stephanie Beatriz, Gary Cole, Kevin Kline, Zach Galifianakis, David Herman, Aziz Ansari, and John Roberts.
