3 Demons poster (Uncorkd)

Synopsis:

3 DEMONS fixes on a Deputy that is tasked with watching over the body of a recently deceased woman until her family can arrive and claim her. As his curiosity gets the better of him, he inadvertently concludes an unfinished ritual. The conjuring now complete, strange and sinister forces begin to target him. As his past is unearthed, he’s forced to face his own demons with terrifying consequences.

Uncork’d Entertainment does it again; another well-written and compelling low-budget film for my amusement.

Peter Tell carries 3 Demons in more ways than one. Not only did he help write the film, but every scene includes him, often acting against nothing more than a body under a sheet.

The fits and starts of Deputy Fisher’s night guarding a dead body are disconcerting for both him and the audience and have the net result of ratcheting up the tension on what should be a normal bit of police work.

Everyone has a past, and Deputy Fisher is no exception, except that his is breaking through into the here and now, confronting him with more and more of his slowly revealed guilt.

Now, while I did find the end of the film a bit ambiguous in terms of whether what seems to happen actually happened as a result of an occult ritual or simply insanity (which is the framework the film is built on, as embodied in the questioning by Doctor Sawyer), it actually made the rest of the film more compelling in hindsight rather than leaving me feeling unsatisfied. Questioning whether I had missed a moment, or a line, or a flash of memory, all kept me in the proper headspace to appreciate Peter Tell’s performance as Fisher.

A solid psychological/supernatural thriller, and one I recommend.

3 Demons is now available on Digital and DVD and stars Peter Tell, Haley Heslip, Sherryl Despres, and Laura Golinski.
