Synopsis:

When a group of rich 20-somethings plan a hurricane party at a remote family mansion, a party game turns deadly in this fresh and funny look at backstabbing, fake friends, and one party gone very, very wrong.

Well, this looked pretty straightforward going in: a group of entitled dipshits holding a hurricane party (stupid #1) decides to play a murder game in the vein of Werewolf, Son of Sam (watch Only Murders In The Building on Hulu), in which one person “kills” someone and the others all vote on who to “execute” for the crime.

Pick the wrong killer? Rinse and repeat. Someone else gets killed.

Play this game with a bunch of drug-fueled asshats with personal and interpersonal issues (stupid #2), and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.

Now, if that makes it sound like I hate this movie, that’s wrong.

Now, am I saying that it’s a good movie? I’m not sure yet.

Bodies Bodies Bodies is a 100% satiric look at Gen-Z and their obsession with social media, technology, their ephemeral social status, and victimhood: finding someone to blame.

And let’s throw in isolation, darkness, and jealous paranoia (stupid #3), to really stir things up!

The script from Kristen Roupenian is a veritable “buzzword bingo” for the aggrieved set; accusations of people being “toxic” fly, as does one of my favorite phrases, “feelings are facts!”

Exactly zero of these idiots is relatable or able to be empathized with at any point, even the one character, Bee (played by Maria Bakalova), whom we’re theoretically supposed to support and/or like, is a bit of a mixed bag.

But make no mistake, director Halina Reijn has created the exact movie she set out to; it would be impossible for the entire cast to be so incredibly and completely unlikable by accident. It’s as if they’ve been genetically engineered for the audience to hate.

So, I’ll tell you to see Bodies Bodies Bodies, but go in knowing that there are no heroes here. No one to root for, but plenty to root against.

Only one of those who end up dead doesn’t deserve it… at least not as much as the others do.
As for who the killer winds up being? Obviously, I won’t spoil that for you, but let me say that I jokingly called it (and the method) prior to the film even starting.

You may be able to, as well.

Bodies Bodies Bodies hits theaters today and stars Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Myha’la Herrold, Chase Sui Wonders, Rachel Sennott, Lee Pace, and Pete Davidson
