Sawed Off - Review
Sawed Off (Uncorkd)

Synopsis:

Two hunters, friends for years and vying for the affections of the same woman, find themselves on cursed land where they keep killing each other and coming back to life.

The screenplay for Sawed Off is by Barton, Johnson, and is based on Chuck Wagner’s Eclipse Comics story “Bag Limit,” published in TALES OF TERROR in 1986.

Billed as being in the vein of Evil Dead meets Groundhog Day, Sawed Off is a pretty good look at what can happen if you have a solid, if simple, premise and decide to stick to it.

Because not only do these two keep “coming back to life,” but they do so in new bodies: but not repaired ones.

Yes, you read that right; if they’re shot in the chest, a new version of themselves reappears with a bullet hole in their chest… but their already-dead bodies will still be lying on the ground or wherever they fell.

That gets awkward to explain to Marge when this whole thing starts.

So, the premise of the curse is just solid enough to hang the rest of the film on, though I wish they might have been able to do actual flashbacks instead of the admittedly-interesting animation sequences depicting the history of the curse.

But that’s a minor squabble, at best.

The performances are enjoyable, especially once the guys start to come to grips with what’s happening, lol.

Overall, I enjoyed Sawed Off, and I think you will, too.

Sawed Off is currently available on digital platforms and stars Jody Barton, Eva Hamilton, and Trae Ireland.
