Blonde: The Marilyn Stories – Review

Blonde: The Marilyn Stories Collection – Review

Hey, guys. We’ve got something a little different for you this time. Check the synopsis, then read on about the set itself below that.

Blonde – The Marilyn Stories (Film Chest)

Synopsis:

Film Chest Media Group, the classic film company, will release Blonde: The Marilyn Stories in a special-edition collector’s 3-DVD set, available Dec. 6.

This new, comprehensive compilation helps to answer some of the many questions that continue to linger about the extraordinary life of one of the world’s most-famed sex symbols, depicting various aspects of her complicated character and career during a life cut tragically short.

The 3-DVD set includes:

  • Blonde (2001), a two-part, fictionalized biopic,
  • Marilyn and Me (1991), a dramatic feature
  • Goodbye Norma Jean (1976), the first-ever exploitative biopic, originally deemed a questionable release due to its salacious nature.

BONUS FEATURES: Included in 113 minutes of bonus material are:

  • Marilyn (1986), a documentary short with Mike Wallace,
  • The Legend of Marilyn Monroe (1967), narrated by John Huston and featuring Lauren Bacall
  • Footage of Marilyn’s first-ever television appearance
  • A photo gallery and trivia

I took a look at the 3 main features of the collection to check out the video quality and here are some screenshots and a short video clips so you can get sense of what they are going to look like, presented from newest to oldest:

You can get a sense from the video selection how folks might have thrown around the “questinoable” and “salacious” labels for this one. It was 1976, after all… even the music screams, well, you know what it screams.

If you watched the Netflix film, Blonde, earlier this year with Ana de Armas, you might also enjoy checking out these other looks at the Hollywood icon’s life.

Overall, I think that any Marilyn Monroe fan would like to have this under their Christmas tree this year, or just “because” if you’re a fan yourself and want to check it out.
