Those Who Call - Review
Those Who Call (Uncorkd)

Synopsis:

Those Who Call tells of two sisters that go on a road trip to Colorado. On their way there, their car breaks down in an abandoned old town. Soon they realize things aren’t what they seem, and they aren’t alone in the forest. They find themselves being hunted by a sadistic pagan cult and must do everything in their power to survive.

Nobody should ever think it’s a good idea to drive through a huge forest on a dirt road. Ever.

I know all you campers and overlanders might disagree but hear me out.

As soon as you run out of gas (which is dumb; anyone should know that you start looking for a gas station at a half a tank… duh), you don’t get out and start walking in the dark.

If you know you’re lost, you immediately turn around and retrace back to someplace you know.

These are the basic things.

Last thing: you don’t cut through the woods; you follow the road you were driving on. How hard is that?

In Those Who Call, none of these rules are followed, and bad things happen.

Technically, the film spends a lot of time in the dark, so dark it’s tough to follow, and the dialogue is too-often shreiked and repetitively inane. 90% of the film is our two leads simply wandering aimlessly either not speaking at all or shouting at one another.

But the biggest problem with this movie isn’t the blatant disregard for common sense or bad lighting/dialogue, but rather that the explanation for what’s going on is so poorly set up throughout the film, and then is so hurriedly — and badly — explained at the end, that I just didn’t care about any of it.

Skip it.

Those Who Call is now streaming and stars Angie Sandoval, Yetlanezi Rodriguez, Reese Fast, Kevin Kinkade, and Addison Cousins.

And remember, if the BEST thing you can say about a movie is that it’s “visually stunning,” then they’ve done something wrong.
