Synopsis:
Humans built huge engines on the surface of the earth to find a new home. But the road to the universe is perilous. In order to save earth, young people once again have to step forward to start a race against time for life and death.
The sequel (but really a prequel) to 2019’s surprise sci-fi hit takes us back in time to how the Earth became a wandering body through space.
Sprawling across both the Earth and the Moon, The Wandering Earth II doesn’t skimp on scale or story.
Multiple storylines echo or parallel one another, the effects range from pretty darned good to absolutely freaking amazing, and the cast is 100% solid across the board.
Yes, while this is a Chinese production (subtitles!), the story’s global impact and influence is felt, though the more traditional aspects of Asian culture (including duty and family) definitely don’t hide… nor should they.
An exciting, yet slight overlong (at just under 3 hours) epic, The Wandering Earth II ably withstands any sense of boredom, while never feeling overly rushed.
If you’re a fan of science fiction or global disaster, then this just might be for you.
The Wandering Earth II is currently playing in select theaters and stars Andy Lau, Jing Wu, Zina Blahusova, Zhi Wang, Liya Tong, Li Ning, Yanmanzi Zhu, and Xuejian Li.
