Synopsis:
Black market marijuana dealer Vince is living the high life in Los Angeles, but everything changes when new laws pass making cannabis legal. With limited dispensary licenses available, Vince may be squeezed out of the business. He’s desperate to make one final score, but borrows money from the wrong people.
I’m going to keep this one simple, as that synopsis makes it about as simple as you can get.
There is nothing ground-breaking in The Last Deal, so there probably isn’t going to be anything ground-breaking in this review, either. We’ve seen all of the bits and pieces that make up The Last Deal before, countless times.
Often playing like a political examination of legalized marijuana laws and their (unintended?) consequences, The Last Deal is a rather rote tale of small-time criminal trying to go legit, but who is ultimately squeezed out by “Big Corporate” and/or “Big Government.”
If you’ve been paying attention, you realize those two are often the same… or at least feel that way.
Licensing, kick-backs, inspections, labor laws, taxes… the independence of the little guy is overrun by regulation and competition.
Okay, I said I’d keep it simple, so here it is:
The Last Deal is perfectly fine. The acting is fine. The script is fine. The cinematography is fine.
Perhaps the best thing about the film, actually, is its depiction of how the government can screw up a sure thing, lol, screw the little guy in the process.
So check out some fine performances and maybe learn a lesson about how the world really works in the process.
The Last Deal is in theaters now and stars Anthony Molinari, Mister Fitzgerald, Jeffri Lauren, Sala Baker, and Gigi Gustin.
And remember, if the BEST thing you can say about a movie is that it’s “visually stunning,” then they’ve done something wrong.
