Voice of Shadows - Review
Voice of Shadows

90 Minutes, Not Rated
Written and Directed by Nicholas Bain

Synopsis:

A young working class woman stands to inherit an estate if she and her boyfriend abide by a set of bizarre stipulations.

Voice of Shadows is a fairly generic horror/thriller about a person who inherits an estate from a weird relative, but which has strings attached.

The biggest one is that her boyfriend cannot stay at the house.

Obviously, they balk at that. But another weird stipulation is that she must always answer the wierd old phone when it rings and talk to whoever is calling.

No red flags here, right?

Of course, weird things start to happen, and Gabriel (the boyfriend) desperately tries to get Emma (his girlfriend) to leave the house, despite the fact they have been violating the “he can’t stay here” rule.

But when the lawyer calls them on it…

Gabriel’s past rears its ugly head, and the predictable supernatural consequences rear up.

Drawing influence from films such as Hereditary, Voice of Shadows never rises above its undeveloped script, though the cast struggles mightily to elevate what little they have been given.

Voice of Shadows isn’t the worst film I’ve ever seen, but it’s certainly far from the best in this genre.

Voice of Shadows will be available on digital platforms September 17 and stars Guillermo Blanco, Corrinne Mica, Bee Vang, Michael Paul Levin, and Martin Harris.

And remember, if the BEST thing you can say about a movie is that it’s “visually stunning,” then they’ve done something wrong.
