Eenie Meanie
Review by Mark Woodring
“Exclusively on Hulu” used to mean something. Now that Hulu has become a de facto tab on Disney+, and we’ve been told the standalone Hulu service is going to vanish completely, does the cachet that used to be associated with Hulu really still apply?
20th Century Studios is hoping so, with the imminent release of Eenie Meanie, a multi-hyphenate action-drama-comedy featuring Samara Weaving.

Synopsis:
A reformed teenage getaway driver is dragged back into her unsavory past when a former employer offers her a chance to save the life of her chronically unreliable ex-boyfriend.
Let me just say it up front: Samara Weaving can absolutely handle all the various genre antics present in Eenie Meanie. Taken in a vacuum, she’s basically flawless in every scene she’s in.
But, not to put too fine a point on it, she is betrayed by a script that borrows liberally from films such as Baby Driver, the Ocean’s franchise, and any number of rom-coms in which a ne’er-do-well boyfriend is bailed out by his better half.
I don’t want to spend too much time on this, because it is a fun watch, and I don’t want to spoil the otherwise derivative aspects of it for you.
Apart from Weaving, the best performance in the film is from Andy Garcia in a supporting role as Nico, who forces her to bail her boyfriend, John, out of a massive, self-imposed hole.
Eenie Meanie is generally a fun ride, a true popcorn movie that requires you to simply turn off your brain and enjoy each scene as it comes. It’s not on the level of the aforementioned Baby Driver or Ocean’s 11 (or even Ocean’s 8), but it’s a pleasant enough distraction for an otherwise lazy afternoon screening.
That’s a wrap on Eenie Meanie.
Eenie Meanie is available exclusively on Hulu starting August 22 and stars Samara Weaving, Steve Zahn, Karl Glusman, Mike O’Malley, Marshawn Lynch, Andy Garcia, Chris Bauer, and Randall Park.
And remember, if the BEST thing you can say about a movie is that it’s “visually stunning,” then they’ve done something wrong.
