Christa McAuliffe, a teacher from New Hampshire, was aboard, along with Dick Scobee, Michael Smith, Ellison Onizuka, Judith Resnik, Ronald McNair, and Gregory Jarvis.
Less than 90 seconds after launch, a nearly-instantaneous destruction of the shuttle occurred, leaving NASA, America, and indeed the whole world, in a state of shock.
