TwoTwo

Synopsis:

David appears to have the perfect life, until he loses his job and hits rock bottom. After accepting a mysterious man’s offer to change his life, he meets a young woman on the run called TwoTwo.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one:

Man has shitty life.

Man hits rock bottom and meets a strange man.

Strange man promises him answers to his life for his last dollar.

Man meets strange girl, and his fortunes–and outlook–begin to change.

One part The Matrix, one part romantic comedy, TwoTwo is an intriguing mix for genres that reaches for, and mostly scratches, those cinematic itches for something different we all have.

Morgan Makana is a revelation here. I really enjoyed her performance as TwoTwo, the girl whose strange abilities are never fully explained, but whose impact on the world

But there’s the rub; while I really enjoyed watching TwoTwo interact with the world–and with David–the overall thrust of the background isn’t sufficiently developed to justify blind acceptance of everything that is going on.

The mythology (for lack of a better word) is interesting but incomplete, though I will likely revisit the film to see if that corrects itself or not.

Overall, I enjoyed TwoTwo and would recommend it for those who want something a bit different.

TwoTwo is currently streaming and stars Morgan Makana, Joel Ballard, and Kenneth Best.
