No One Will Save You – Review

Synopsis:
From 20th Century Studios, No One Will Save You is a captivating sci-fi psychological thriller introducing Brynn Adams, a creative and talented young woman who’s been alienated from her community. Lonely but ever hopeful, Brynn finds solace within the walls of the home where she grew up—until she’s awakened one night by strange noises from decidedly unearthly intruders. What follows is an action-packed face-off between Brynn and a host of extraterrestrial beings who threaten her future while forcing her to deal with her past.
Kaitlyn Dever may be best known for films like Booksmart and Rosaline, where she displays a masterful control of comedic timing and note-perfect presentation of dialogue, but this movie doesn’t care about that.
No One Will Save You stars Kaitlyn Dever, and basically no one else, for it’s 93-minute runtime. Shunned (for reasons we’ll learn later) by her community, with no family, Brynn (Dever) lives through mail order: sending out custom clothes and ordering model buildings for her living-room sized diorama.
But one night, she is the victim of a home invasion, and a tense standoff begins as she tries to avoid becoming a victim of the alien, yes Alien, creatures who have invaded the area.
So we’ve got a little bit of Signs, some Alien, along with some Lifetime movie DNA, and it all revolves around Kaitlyn Dever, who has no dialogue.
That’s right: 93 minutes of no dialogue. By anyone.
That’s the hook here, BTW. This is an alien invasion movie dependent on how well our lead can convince us she is terrified without telling us she’s terrified.
Nailed it.
This is as impressive a feat of acting as you’ll see in a film like this… maybe in any film this year.
Dever is 100% in control of the film at all times, and director Brian Duffield (Love and Monsters and Spontaneous) crafts a visual treat around her, with alien design that is both familiar and incredibly unique and terrifying. Seriously terrifying.
You may have nightmares.
Or your kids might.
It’s PG-13, so keep the little-littles away from this one.
Perhaps the only place the film falls down is post-climax; the ending is a little too ambiguously happy for my tastes, but it doesn’t ruin the experience of viewing the rest of the film at all.
Not a bit.
Check this one out as quickly as you can. You won’t be disappointed.
No One Will Save You hits Hulu September 22 and stars Kaitlyn Dever.
And remember, if the BEST thing you can say about a movie is that it’s “visually stunning,” then they’ve done something wrong.
