The Canterville Ghost - Review
The Canterville Ghost (Blue Fox)

Synopsis:

An American family moves into Canterville Chase, a stately countryside mansion that has been haunted by the ghost of Sir Simon De Canterville for 300 years.

Based on the story by Oscar Wilde, The Canterville Ghost is a shallow, if entertaining, take on the classic tale. Our heroine, a strong, independent American girl, is forced to move to Canterville Chase, former (and current) home of Sir Simon De Canterville.

Written for “today’s audience” of young women, The Canterville Ghost might lose some points for having the lead reluctantly pursue — and execute — a romantic liaison with the son of a neighboring noble, but otherwise, her “what aboutme?” and “I don’t need no man” attitude will resonate perfectly with today’s pre-teen and teenage set.

The animation leaves a bit to be desired, however, being just a step above the old Barbie™ CG animated films, but managing to be a bit smoother in motion and construction.

A serviceable effort which will find its audience, and is theaters now.

From Blue Fox Entertainment, The Canterville Ghost features the voices of Emily Carey, Freddie Highmore, Hugh Laurie, Toby Jones, Stephen Fry, Imelda Staunton, Miranda Hart, Meera Syal, and Georgia Small.

And remember, if the BEST thing you can say about a movie is that it’s “visually stunning,” then they’ve done something wrong.
