Coyote vs Acme
Review by Mark Woodring
The road into theaters for Coyote vs Acme has been as long and winding as a flight by the Coyote on a defective Acme rocket.
Completed in 2023, shelved in the same year as a tax write-off no one understood, it’s now here, thanks to Ketchup Entertainment finally prying it from Warner Brothers’ not-cold, not-dead (yet) fingers for the public to appreciate.
**NOTE: You can read Mark’s review below, then listen or watch once he and Ryan discuss the film further. Remember, though, you can listen to all our discussions of this and every other movie directly over on ACAST. Stay tuned.**

101 Minutes, Rated PG
Written by Samy Burch, James Gunn, Jeremy Slater
Directed by Dave Green
Synopsis:
After all of the products made by ACME Corporation backfire on Wile E. Coyote, in his pursuit of the Road Runner, he hires an equally-unlucky human attorney to sue the company.
I’ll keep this short and sweet, in honor of the old Looney Tunes cartoons.
I had previously posted on X:
Is Coyote vs Acme perfect? No. Some of the technical aspects of having humans interact with animated characters miss at time (eye-line, etc.), but overall, the effect is convincing..
Is it good? Yes. Very good.
What was Warner Brothers thinking? No effing idea.
This is NOT a tax write-off project. The nostalgia alone is worth $100 Million.
The various, humorous story beats concerning ambulance-chasing lawyers, evil capitalist companies, animal (cartoon) testing, etc., are all fleshed-out and enjoyable as comedic bits.
The best running gag in cinema this year may very well be Will Forte’s car. You’ll see. Trust me.
Again, I’m not sure what WB was thinking on this one. It’s flat-out hilarious.
And somehow, heartfelt, too.
Crazy, right? A story about a coyote trying to kill and eat a roadrunner is heartfelt?
Yep. It is.
Coyote vs Acme is a wonderfully silly throwback of a film that anyone can watch, whether you’re steeped in Looney Tunes lore or not.
I definitely fall easily on the Positive side of the scale on this on, my previous X post notwithstanding.
Coyote vs Acme blows up in theaters this Friday, August 28, and stars Will Forte, Lana Condor, John Cena, Martha Jones, Tone Bell, P.J. Byrne, Luis Guzman, Wile E. Coyote, Road Runner, Foghorn Leghorn, Tweety Bird, Granny, Doctor Peter Lorre, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, and the Tasmanian Devil.
And remember, if the BEST thing you can say about a movie is that it’s “visually stunning,” then they’ve done something wrong.
